Travel Itinerary

Day 1 /Lanzhou                  O/N Lanzhou

The guide pick up you from the airport, train station or bus terminal in Lanzhou and we will then take the bus to Lanzhou downtown, take a city tour in Lanzhou, visit the Iron Bridge, Water Wheel Garden and make a free walk in the Zhenning Road.

Day 2 Lanzhou/Zhangye                  O/N Zhangye

Taking the high speed train to Zhangye, after lunch we visit the Giant Buddha Temple in the afternoon, it is the largest architectural relic in Gansu Province of the Western Xia (1038-1227) period. China's largest reclining Buddha is well preserved in this temple. The whole Buddha is 34.5 meters long and 7.5 meters wide between its two shoulders, with feet of 4 meters and ears of 2 meters.

Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park
A bus is riding on the twisty mountain road. Zhangye Danxia Mountains are easily one of the most beautiful places you'have ever been throughout the whole Silk Road Tour

We will then visit Danxia Landform Geological Park, it is best to visit Danxia Geological Park during sunset, especially sunrise, when the colors change continuously, showing yellow and red layers covered by a light gray layer.

Day 3 Zhangye/Badain Jaran Desert              O/N local farmer’s house

We are driving to the entrance of the Badain Jaran Desert, then we take the 4*4 Jeep to surfing in the desert and stay in the center of desert overnightly.
The Badain Jaran Desert covers an area of 49,000 sq. kilometers. It is the highest and most beautiful desert in the world spanning the provinces of Inner Mongolia. The desert is also home to over 100 spring-fed lakes that lie between the dunes, some of which are fresh while others are salty. We will visit the highest peak in the Desert—Bilutu Peak, which is called the “desert Everest”, the Badain Lake and Temple in the desert. Zhangye to Entrance of Desert is 200 km and riding time is about 1 hour

Day 4 Badain Jaran Desert/Zhangye            On: Zhangye

Badain Jaran Desert
Travelers are riding camels to visit Bilutu Peak of Badain Jaran Desert, which is known as the world's highest stationary dune.

See the sunrise in the desert, and continue to surfing in the desert, and enjoy the exciting sand sliding, the tour will end at lunch time and we will then transfer to Alxa Youqi and drive to Zhangye after lunch.
Next morning, we go to visit he Mati Temple Caves. The whole grotto is composed of Shenguo Temple, Puguang Temple, Qianfo Cave, Jinta Temple, Upper Guanyin Cave, Middle Guanyin Cave and Lower Guanyin Cave. Firstly built in the northern Liang period, Mati Temple boasts more than 70 caves and shrines. According to the legend, a horse from the heaven once left a mark of horse hooves here, and thus the temple got its name.
We come back to Zhangye downtown for lunch. Zhangye to Matsi Temple Caves is 75 km and driving time is 1 hour.

Day 5 Zhangye/Jiayuguan             O/N Jiayuguan

We drive to Jiayuguan In the morning, after lunch we visit the Jiayuguan famous Fortress and Great Wall Museum. It is the west end of the Ten Thousands Li of Great Wall in China, the Fortress was first built in 1372 AD, in Ming Dynasty, it was reputed of the First Impregnable Pass Under the Heaven.

Day 6 Jiayuguan/Dunhuang             O/N Dunhuang

We drive to Dunhuang in the morning, we will visit the Singing Sand Dune (Mingsha Hill) which is piled up with sand in five colors of red, yellow, green, black and white. The so-called singing sand does not sing by itself, but creates singing sound when people tread or slide on the surface of the sand, which is a kind of miracle of the nature. Crescent Spring is at the northern foot of the Mingsha Hill and is 118 meters from east to west and 25 meters from south to north. The crescent-like lake is surrounded by the sand but never buried by it. The water in the lake is very clear all year around.
Dunhuang to Jiayuguan is 380 km and it takes 5 hrs of driving.

Day 7 Jiayuguan/Dunhuang             O/N Dunhuang

We visit the Mogao Grottoes in the morning; Mogao Grottoes is one of the three noted grottoes in China for its fabulous frescos and statues. It has the largest, oldest, richest Buddhist art gallery in the world and it was listed the World Cultural Heritages by the UNESCO in 1987. we will visit the Dunhuang city Museum in the afternoon, it is a small museum but showing the history of Silk Road and some antique or historical site around Dunhuang.

Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes
Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes: where buddhism was first brought to China and monks carved amazing caves into the earth for prayer and meditation. It's forbidden to take photos inside the caves but they are really impressive! One cave holds a 26 meter Buddha!

Day 8 Dunhuang/

Clients leave Dunhaung and tour ends.
